Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
