Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 different languages.
